Historical stories tend to be a hard sell for me, but this one really captured me. It helps that it includes one of my favorite ship dynamics — Charismatic But Carefree to a Fault Guy + Exasperated But Loyal Guy. Just as an example, if you enjoyed the relationship between Shin and Bon in Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, there’s a similar dynamic here.
It’s hard for me to think of what to write besides I LOVE IT lol. Hm. It’s a war romance with a happy ending? My main complaint with it is that I wish it was longer? The art is nice and the setting is interesting, but the main selling point is the characters and their relationship. Even in just one volume, I got really invested in their happiness. Perhaps due to the setting and the characters’ history with each other, the stakes felt high and I felt compelled to read the entire thing in one sitting.
Anyway. If you’re like me and don’t usually go for historical, I encourage you to check this out — especially if you like messy relationships with imperfect people.
