Seiji Tajima is a single, forty-something shop owner who’s close friends with police officer Shin Nakamoto. Shin, who’s just been assigned a patrol in Seiji’s neighborhood, has known the older man since he was in high school – back when Seiji himself worked in the police force. Shin’s harbored a crush on Seiji for years, but has convinced himself that their relationship is as good as it gets – until one day out of the blue, Seiji casually mentions the possibility of trying his luck with men… His simmering feelings suddenly brought to the boil, Shin shoves Seiji up against the wall, and… From the author of the hit comic “An Innocent Puppy Meets a Two-Faced Cat” comes a new spin-off!Can Shin, who’s held a 10-year-long torch for the (too) laid-back Seiji, win in this game of love?

Easily one of my favorite discoveries from Renta. I long to own this in print.
What can I say… First of all, it’s one of the funniest BL I’ve ever, despite not actually being a comedy. The two leads just have a really humorous dynamic since one is a goof and the other is straight-faced and earnest.
This manga never takes itself too seriously, but there is a genuine emotional core to the characters and the story that makes it stand out. Right from the start, you can tell that these characters have a history and enjoy being around each other. Plus, there’s even delicious, delicious pining.
The story itself is straightforward but nicely done. I appreciate how tight the writing is — truly not a single panel or line is wasted. Often, I finish reading a short BL and forget nearly everything about it within a couple weeks or months. But with this one, I can still recall the entire story chapter by chapter and certain pages are seared into my mind.
Lastly, I love the art in this BL. The author has a real talent for both humorous expressions and steamy scenes, and switches between the two with ease. Speaking of, this is one of the only BL I can think of where the couple laughs and jokes around during sex? More BL need to get on My Dearest Cop’s level!
There is a sequel which is also a lot of fun, but the first volume present a complete story all on its own. As for the manga this one is a spin-off of (An Innocent Puppy Meets a Two-Faced Cat) no knowledge is necessary. The characters play a very minor role and what little you need to know is explained in the text.
To sum up, if you haven’t checked this out yet, I really think you should give it a chance! If you like couples you genuinely enjoy each other’s company, joke around, and seriously care about each other, this one is really one you can’t miss!

I agree with everything midgeyu said, this is a real gem in the world of BL and a standout within Niyama’s impressive repertoire. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s worth every penny.
