@friedgreenfujo I've seen it suggested that the publisher doing the new version of Fake in English might possibly be doing Border in the future - they seem to be distributing the series' new material in Japan. There's nothing even remotely definite about that, of course (this was based on, like, a promo image with characters from both Fake and Border on it), but if the company has distribution rights for Kodaka's stuff in Japanese and they're demonstrably interested in bringing older titles out in English...

oh man I hope so, I love Border and I've been so disgusted with how it was left hanging like that. I've been seeing stuff about the sequel so it would be really amazing if it got a re-do and they got the sequel too

I bought the new version of Fake and was quite impressed. It is clear they went for an Ultimate edition vibe as it even the doujins included at the end of the volumes. It's of a much, much higher quality than I was ever expecting.

I've seen the banner with Border on it as well and I really hope they do release it. I've always wanted to read it but the elephant in the room said no. It would be cool if they could get released in print, but I very much doubt it would be via June.

@phya

I've been getting the new edition of Fake and I'm really glad they made it worth re-purchasing for people with the old copy

I'd rather have Border in print but honestly I bought one of the volumes digitally when it came out like a full year before it was available in print (then got it again lol) so I'd take whatever I could get if it meant being able to read it.

Last year I started this whole thread because I had heard that they weren't doing well. Things have been getting better since last year?

We're excited to announce Only the Flower Knows v.1 - 3  & Hana no Miyako de (the sequel)  - by Rihito Takarai (artist of Seven Days + Ten Count) - will be available in 2022.

so now I'm wondering if there's hope of it being rescued by another publisher since there's been new content coming out.

I am thinking maybe there is a good chance they can pick up things themselves except Border. That new Japanese publisher Compass has been doing things with Border's mangaka and things in English.

I saw this and it almost but not quite overrides my skepticism that they'll finish the handful of series they still have the license to. I want to read Deadlock because Saki Aida has a knack for crime stories (I really like S) and I've read translated scripts of the drama cds, but do I really, truly trust that they'll finish putting it out? And do I really, truly trust that the reprints of vol 1 are good? You can't even get them from anywhere but their site.

I almost wonder if someone up the chain somewhere told them they need to shit or get off the pot regarding the licenses they've been camped on and not doing anything with

The threat of losing licenses is the only thing I can figure, because why these licenses? Twittering Birds, sure, and even Only the Flower Knows since Rihito Takarai's name still sells, but were that many people (besides me, I guess) clamoring for them to finish Deadlock? The original novel series is 15 years old and the manga is 10 years old - not a hot property. Never mind that their release of the first vol had been out of print for years and is still only available through their website after the reprint, so it's hardly gonna garner more fans.

If they can get new licenses, if they haven't burnt down all the bridges, I won't be convinced of that until they get one that isn't connected in any way to previous releases.

You're like an oracle or something...imagine my surprise when I saw the recent Twitter announcement from June about three new print licenses. It seems like June really is re-emerging? I wonder if an investor/partnership gave them some new funds to work with or if they had good enough sales last years to start growing again or if something else is going on.

I don't know if I'm an oracle or not, because I honestly thought they were just staggering along not unlike a zombie.

Mind, I'm still not 100% convinced of their revival - three titles, none newer than 2017, all from the same publisher. Did they get new licenses or did they scrape together enough cash to publish ones they already had? But I suppose they're on life support now.
