I noticed a lot of people were reading the wave of Julian Publishing stuff that's been coming into futekiya lately so if anyone wanted to talk about what they are reading there this seems like a better place to expand on it.

Like I said in the other topic (What I'm Reading Now), I'm reading Foolish Heroine by Moto Amino ( https://read.futekiya.com/comic/5ed110bce16c0)

Spoiler
Spoiler about Foolish Heroine (sorta?)

Just right from the start, Nuts name made me laugh as did the scenario a little. It got a little dub-conny but I generally liked it. Nothing too deep or anything but it has my attention.

I'll probably start reading Public Sex soon!

Also, I noticed in these translations they are using "san" and "chan" more. What do you think about that? I think typically some places don't do it.

Oh my gosh, I think I picked up 10 Julian titles already? Not really a binge type so I'm thankful for the weekly release. Had to drop a title though since the art's pretty dated already.

  1. Public Sex is amusing. I tweeted they need therapy from Gaku Asada of Golden Sparkle...
    Spoiler
I barely remember Ch.1. but the premise is uke begged for the seme to sex him reguarly since he's afraid being a slut and hook up with other men? Which is fine but...it's blackmail. And there's such thing as safe sex you know. Lol.
  2. Show Courage should be titled Public Sex though. Check it for yourself hahahahaha
  3. If I Haven't Fallen in Love With You could've been a great print candidate since it has...representation. But I'll wait further how they narrate the story. The gangster-turned-chef is entertaining though.

I've been poking through the current batch of titles since they started going up and is it just me or are there an awful lot of high school student/teacher stories in this bunch? I know it's not an uncommon theme (even if it's one I tend to find offputting myself), but it sure does feel like a disproportionate number of the Julian titles have it going on compared to what was already in Futekiya's catalog.

There seems to be a mix of both high school/teacher and not. I checked and this looks like the first wave of titles coming in I think, like not all the titles of the 31 announced are up yet. So there will be more adult/adult ones coming in I think.

Prolly just Medibang since Futekiya got their translations from them. I didn't notice this with their in-house translations...

It's amusing how both of them translate yen prices into dollars though. Sometimes to the exact amount, which is weird knowing foreign exchange rates fluctuate (and not always ~1 usd = 100 yen like how some translators explain it lol)

Anyone else disappointed by the end of I Want to Feel You Because I Like You? Matsumoto Noda's oneshots in Show Courage are still my favourite of the Julian lot, but the rest have been flops with me so far.

I hope they start publishing Whimsical Jaguar soon. I'm up to date with that one on Renta and am very excited to see people talking about it.

YES. I was really vibing with it, went to go look and see if I could buy a digital copy for after I finished it because I was sure it was one I wanted to keep, and then we hit that last chapter and

Spoiler

the ghost is actually the spirit of a kindergartener in a coma who took the form of an adult and had sex with the dentist bc... idk, it seemed like a good idea, sure, why not. ??????

I'm pretty easygoing when it comes to content because I read too much terrible fanfiction in my youth, but there are some things that will never not feel like a bucket of cold water dashing down on my head when I encounter them. There are so many ways that ending could've gone that wouldn't've left me recoiling from my screen.

I haven't been too thrilled by any of this batch of Julian titles either (and I didn't expect to be, I Want to Feel You Because I Like You had been a nice surprise right up until the end), but the second batch has more I'm interested in - Contract of Cherry Blossom Guilt is one I like and I've heard loads about Whimsical Jaguar that make it sound promising.

Public Sex was awful lol. Partly expected it and filed under my "So Bad It's Good" category, but the last chapters were so unbelievable. Rihara's Passions of Little Wet Mice was a bit better.

I can agree the 1st batch is a mixed bag - can't be more glad Futekiya actively curates their library instead of dumping all Julian titles they can have. If I Haven't Fallen in Love With You and Wish of God might be the most decent I've read; the rest I dropped or skimmed fast enough to forget them right after.

And yeah...excited for Whimsical Jaguar. Curious about the buzz.

I kinda wanted to warn you about Public Sex when you were so enthusiastic about it at first. 😅 I don't think it's horrible, but it was just so disappointing to me in the end. I was a bit annoyed I bought it.

Ah, been meaning to read Wish of God. Will get on that.

I don't want to overhype Whimsical Jaguar, it's not a perfect manga by any means, but I will say that it's my favourite entertainment industry BL I've read. The plot initially seems like it's going to be a misunderstanding and drama fest, but it's not actually like that past the early chapters. It's one of those stories that spans many years in the characters' lives, and they've grown as people over the chapters I've read. I just hope Julian's new translation does it justice.

No worries, a friend already warned me so I kinda expected it to be bad...but still surprised it was *that* bad. Knowing a few stories featuring creepy stalkers it was a surprise Rihara really pushed that ending. (Sensei's really into...dysfunctional characters I guess.)

The first one-shot wasn't memorable for me but the book's good overall. My fave was "How to Tame Your Puppy Boyfriend", the couple looks so cute...
