Just noticed "2Gether" (the show) is now in the database but was classified under Manga. Will we have a separate TV/web show category soon?

Also is it possible to have a "country of origin" filter in the database? Really curious especially for webcomics and games part...

I know sometimes things can be mislabeled and are easily fixed.

As for the country if origin, I think it might be more important with the database begining to diversify. It does mean extra work though. As I havn't returned to the office yet, I would be willing to try and get existing entries sorted in a spreadsheet if you want Blue.

We can promote a marathon of sorts to bump up the database in time for Fujocon...

Also it would be great to have a suggest/edit button if ever an entry needs one...

@youngbluespring I was actually planning to add certain things to the database involving guests, sponsors, ect. Trying to keep up with new releases on top of that is hard. It's good to know someone had a similar brain wave.

I should really review some more stuff before the con too -_-'

I'll try to figure out how to do it! It might take a little bit more time though and might not line up with Fujocon. Right now I am trying to figure out how to make lists better on top of the general updates. (I am sorry for the slowness...!)

A temporary solution we have now is "Discussions, Notes, and Additional Tags" on each entry where anyone (even people without an account) can leave a comment.

Also, thanks for the heads up about 2gether! I have it fixed now.

I was thinking about how to add this in en-mass to make it easier, and adding in an additional category or tag night work. I'll test it out after work today to see how it looks and message back!

About a marathon, would this be an adding entries marathon?

The easiest I believe would be to filter based on English publisher...we all know Futekiya or Sublime only has JP manga for example, so just filter then add a tag in bulk. But I dunno if the site already has that feature.

Yes, we can do an entries marathon - doesn't need to be fancy but some announcements on Twitter can do to promote the site and add entries. We can also list which categories are in need like how Wikipedia or Fanlore does their marathons.

You've actually done this once already with Blind Men's entry because I remembered you added that tag yourself. (Yes I am sad and remember what you add and remove from the final listings for future reference).

I was just going to make the spreadsheet for the webcomics to save time as we have entries from just about everywhere.

Right now with tags it's possible to filter things out (or more like only search for things with that tag), though there is a probably a easier way to sort it out.

Whoa! You probably keep better track than I do (depending on how sleepy I am when I'm working, I tend to forget.)

In terms of a marathon...if it is a lot of people doing it at once, it might actually be easier to have a google sheet we can all work on rather than the form we have. (The main issue is how images are added in the form.) The format has to be standardized for bulk uploads on the back end here, so I'll need to fiddle around with it a bit to make sure things come out smoothly. (Also thank you for all the help and thoughts about this!!)

The renta spreadsheet I use to help add tags seems to work fine. It just means images would be a problem as there are so many sizes (some needing to be scaled down). We could have a link to the picture, then someone can fix the image and put it in a dropbox or whatever is used these days (I feel old) and colour the box to show it as done.

As for tags, I've been trying to add new ones to the tab on the spreadsheet, have coloured duplicates red so only the true one remains. Can remove the publishers ect from that as a base list maybe? I'll have to check it after work.

It took me longer than I had expected, but I am slowly adding the country of origin category to the database. You should be able to see it on the side bar of the Database page. Right now only a handful of manga have been added as a test, but I'll be adding more soon.

The other parts will be coming soon, I am sorry for the long pauses in progress.

I am sorry for the late message here with updates about a marathon and other updates. At work I've been a little burnt out, and this combined with feeling fatigued with Twitter has left things a little loose. Fujocon is coming up and it will probably be a good opportunity to introduce the database to new users... but I am worried I don't have it in me to be super active during fujocon. I am really thankful people were thinking about it.

In terms of future developments, I'll keep working along with small spurts of daily updates now and I think at the end of the week I'll open up an excel sheet if anyone would like to help with a mass upload.

Categorizing by country is slowly coming along. Most things for Japan should be covered, and I want to work on Mainland China and S. Korea next.

Thanks for sticking around here even when things are slow. 😭

No worries, everyone must be busy too - the deadline for the panel videos is on June 1st, mine included... but I have free time right after so I can start bulk uploading the Pinoy BL stuff.

Is it possible to extract the database into a sheet so if ever we start work we already know which is done just by looking at it?

The burnout is real. I felt it myself and it would be a million times worse for you. When you look back at where the site was during Fujocon last year, it is a completely different beast. We had a few webcomics, some media do and futekiya titles? There’s so much more now it is crazy.

As for the database @youngbluespring I normally have a tab open and just search the title on the database. Some things are up to date (publishers like Kodansha, Seven Seas, Yen Press) and some which are partly done, but there’s only really the stuff on Renta and futekiya where it gets messy. Both have a lot of titles uploaded but still missing a small amount. There’s about 2-3 pages on fute right in the middle that are undone but sporadic titles had been added between them. Most things you would want to add should not be in the database already. There’s too much stuff ;_;

Was planning to use Manga Updates as reference which titles to add on Ouendan, maybe that helps. I dunno if they update stuff religiously though.

I normally start with the individual companies, check database (but I'm normally batch doing 1 publisher so I know what is missing) and use Manga Updates, my own experience, descriptions and even previews to help fill the tags.

Most stuff will be covered on there but for DJs, some renta stuff and futekiya stuff that is new and untranslated, there will be either no tags or the entry doesn't exsist period. That's when searching the mangaka comes into play and even that can be a pain. I remember needing to click through every Ike Reibun title to find Dick Fight island because it wasn't listed as the English or Japanese title (Its listed as The Chroncles of Pulau).

I am sorry it took me so long to set up a simple excel sheet! This is only if people have time and are in the mood to add in titles.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ujbGa-H5CEbzb2jS09swqRUpYEbwDTCSM8SY1RkaFR8/edit?usp=sharing

In the sheet above, people can add in a lot of entries at once, which might be easier to use than the current entry form.Since I am a little worried about having this sheet out there, you will need to ask permission to access it.

The one thing that might be difficult is adding images. Images need to be added in as a link. If anyone has questions about it, please send them in. This is only if people are interested-this style is what I do for Renta titles since there are so many.

In other updates...I am working on some internal things to see if I can make the site easier to use. Categorizing by country is going slowly but slowly getting sorted out.
