Gaya sa Pelikula (Like in the Movies)

(1 customer review)

Pressured to have enough money to earn his keep, Karl takes on odd jobs online. But when one of his major clients suddenly goes MIA, he is left short on funds and without a means to pay for his utilities. An opportunity presents itself when his neighbor, the mysterious Vlad, whom he despises for being inconsiderate, gets himself in a sticky situation — hiding from his own family, and proposes that they become housemates for the rest of the semestral break in exchange for rent.

I can give this title a 5 stars, being one of the best representations of the Pinoy BL boom. Written by an out gay scriptwriter and poet, you can feel how smart the writing was. It also helps that it had a big sponsor which paid for the movie-level production values.

However its story (and fandom) is very political it’s not a good title to recommend for a broad audience. It does not help that it condescendingly labels itself as the BL that “reclaims” queer media, as if all its contemporaries are only fluffy BL without social awareness.
